Naoki Yoshida, who is also known as Yoshi-P, is a well-known Japanese video game producer. He is also a director and designer for Square Enix.

Yoshida was recently featured in an interview at the Korean website Game Focus, and Siliconera published the highlights of the interview, thanks to a Japanese translation from Kultur.

When asked about the "death" of massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), Yoshida said that admittedly, there are only a handful of companies worldwide that would dare to takea risk by creating a new MMORPG. He added that "games are made after getting an investment, but since MMORPGs have high risk in terms of business, investors nowadays have begun thinking that their invested money would be difficult to recover."

According to Game Focus, Yoshida also talked about "Final Fantasy XIV," which is now available for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. The Square Enix director and designer said that without new MMORPGs being released, the genre would sadly reach its end.

He shared that while South Korea has a lot of games with customizable characters, they put off casual gamers since they are too complicated for beginners. Meanwhile, Yoshida added that with the "strong characteristics" of "Final Fantasy XIV," the development team also put into consideration casual gamers who might be overwhelmed with too much information given to them at the start of the game.

On the topic of female gamers, Yoshida was proud to say that "Final Fantasy XIV" was tastefully made so as not to offend women who would try the MMORPG. He also shared that he finds equipment for female characters that bared too much skin distasteful.

As opposed to titles that use scantily clad female characters to reel in gamers, "Final Fantasy XIV" doesn't rely on this tactic. He also said that developers must always keep in mind that people of different genders and backgrounds play MMORPGs so they need not be targeted towards a single category of players. By aiming towards different audiences, MMORPGs can reach a wider variety of players.
