The wait is finally over. Pod2g and his Chronic Dev team have finally released the full-featured iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPod, iPad and even for the second generation Apple TV.

Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak will allow iOS devices to remain jailbroken after reboot. Earlier, users have to plug in their devices into external computer every time they used to reboot the iOS device. Also, this is the first untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and third generation iPad (new iPad). The jailbreak is now available for download at Dev team's website.

Absinthe 2.0 untethered jailbreak tool is compatible with following devices:

  • Phone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4S
  • original iPad
  • iPad 2
  • new iPad
  • iPod (third and fourth generation)
  • Apple TV (second generation)

As you can see, the new jailbreak is compatible with most of iOS devices. However, few devices that deserve the jailbreak have been left out from the final compatibility list. Apple iPad 2s powered by the latest 32nm A5 processor chip are not compatible with the jailbreak. Surprisingly the third generation Apple TV has also been excluded from the compatibility list too.

To jailbreak your iOS device, download the Absinthe 2.0 tool from greenpois0n.com and follow the installation directions given by the dev team, which are also listed below:

  • Backup your device using iTunes
  • Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase all Contents and Setting
  • Open the Absinthe tool that you downloaded earlier and click on "Jailbreak" and wait until the jailbreak process is completed
  • Restore the backup in iTunes and enjoy running you iOS device untethered

In case you have already jailbroken your iOS 5.1 device, install the "Rocky Racoon 5.1.1. Untether" tool from Cydia.
