The show's ninth episode, "Three Gems and a Baby," is by far the latest in "Steven Universe's" fourth season. In this Christmas special episode, the Universe family gather as they reminisce their earlier winter experiences.
Premiered last Dec. 1, the episode started with the Universes and their friends staying inside their home as a strong blizzard arrives. Trying to keep themselves warm from the cold weather, Greg started singing "I Could Never Be Ready" with his guitar, signaling the flashback sequences.
The show reveals the events of Steven's first winter with Greg, who had difficulties raising him because he no idea how to raise a human child. They didn't have a place of their own before, but fortunately they were allowed to stay in Vidalia's home.
There is also a moment when Greg felt gloomy when he saw a picture, seemingly reminded him of her lover Rose's recent departure.
Soon after, Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst came in to give gifts to the baby. A strange ray of light appeared on Steven's gem on his stomach, however, and everyone began to speculate the meaning behind it.
An emotional Pearl insisted that Rose is trapped inside the baby Steven, and needs extracting. Both Garnet and Amethyst, on the other hand, are guessing that the baby was just Rose, trying to transform back to her original appearance.
Meanwhile, Greg is convinced that Steven is just a normal human baby as he gets a baby book to look for explanations behind the baby's glowing. But suddenly, the three Gems escaped fast with Steven, technically kidnapping the baby.
In the last minutes of the episode, the Gems tried to show Steven how to shape-shift but failed, hence the conclusion that Steven is really just a normal baby. Greg later appears and takes Steven, and Garnet apologizes as they only want to know Steven's real identity.
"Three Gems and a Baby" is the second of the confirmed comeback episodes after the series' two-month hiatus on September. However, there is no official information on the next episode premiere date just yet, thus the possibility of the show going on another indefinite hiatus.
It is also noted that the show is facing cancellation rumors because of its declining TV viewership ratings, but there is no official word as press time. In contrast to this, the show is also rumored to have their next episodes lined up with its titles leaked.
Stay tuned for more updates regarding "Steven Universe," and the show's fate in the near future.
