"The Originals" Season 4 is scheduled to air in March 2017, but as early as now, fans are hoping that the upcoming installment will not be the last one for the series. Showrunner Julie Plec hinted that Season 4 might not be the end for the series. She also had high hopes that the characters in "The Vampire Diaries" will find their way to New Orleans.
Back in June, The CW announced that the show wouldn't return in the 2016 fall schedule. While the show was highly anticipated by its following, there were only so many shows that could be fit into the 10 hours of primetime television a week.
"The Originals" Season 4 is supposed to air in January 2017 however it was pushed to a later date. Furthermore, the CW also announced that the upcoming season will take over the timeslot of "The Vampire Diaries" which will wrap up on Mar. 10 for its season finale. Furthermore, recent spoilers revealed that "The Vampire Diaries" finale survivor shall be crossing over to save the Mikaelsons.
Since "The Vampire Diaries" is in its final season, fans are hopeful that its spinoff series "The Originals" will have more seasons. Plec has been cryptic about the fate of the spinoff since she thinks that the series will continue to run "for another couple years."
There have been speculations that Caroline will make her way to New Orleans to help Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) with his predicament. Plec also mentioned in her interviews that there was a character that she decided not to kill on TVD since that person could reappear in "The Originals." Characters that make it out alive in TVD season 8 could all move over to the spin-off and they might be the key to saving the Mikaelsons.
However, there were no statements yet about the rumors of "The Vampire Diaries" casts crossing over to "The Originals" Season 4.
"The Originals" brings the Mikaelson family back on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
