"The Originals" Season 4 is still months away from its return on The CW network, but cancellation rumors continue to fill the Internet. The network recently announced that the upcoming season of "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff series will have less episodes, making fans speculate the end of the show.

As fans of "The Originals" know, the parent series "The Vampire Diaries" is currently airing the final season of the series. Naturally, this made speculations start to swirl that Season 4 could be the final season for "The Originals" as well.

This may have caused anxiety among fans and viewers of The CW drama, as "The Originals" Season 3 premiered in October 2015. The reason behind the delay in the release of the spinoff series is believed to be due to the cancellation of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

Moreover, on a report by TVline, "The Originals" failed to secure a spot on The CW's fall schedule. However, network president Mark Pedowitz spoke of his decision to hold the show until midseason.

"We have a very strong schedule. We still believe quite a bit in "The Originals". We only have 10 hours, so we made a choice to [hold it] to further boost our schedule at midseason," Pedowitz said.

Moreover, fans noted the network president's statement that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is not yet its last because there is a tendency it might do a crossover to "The Originals."

"No decision has been made one way or the other," he maintained, before adding, "My dream is it isn't [the final season].

There is a hint that series might come to ABC after it ends on The CW, but this hasn't been confirmed either.

"The Originals" Season 4 is scheduled to debut on The CW in 2017.
