The director of the recently released stealth action-adventure game "Dishonored 2" has expressed his thoughts about the poor PC performance of the game.

Talking to a lot of equally disappointed fans on Twitter, Harvey Smith said that the team at Arkane Studios is working on a fix for the PC version of the game, which suffered from severe performance issues.

"I'm happy people are raving about the game. The majority are loving it," Smith told one fan on Twitter. "But I'm distressed that some PC users have problems."

Harvey also assured that the necessary tests were run on the PC version before it was released, and said that the people at Arkane Studios "care deeply" about PC, being PC users themselves. The team is now working doubly hard this weekend to address the issues, saying that they now have a clear view of several problems encountered thanks to the player reports.

Harvey also said to another fan that the PC version of "Dishonored 2" is definitely not a port.

Bethesda has released a similar statement about the PC version of "Dishonored 2," saying that the publisher is "disheartened" that people are encountering issues in the game.

"We are actively working to provide an update to address your concerns," Bethesda said on its official statement. "The patch and its release notes will be available in the coming days."

In the meantime, PC users are asked to check out the recommended settings detailed below (via bethesda.net)

General recommendations

Avoid using Alt-Tab when playing. Relaunch the game if you see performance dropping after using Alt-tab.

Avoid having background applications running in addition to the game.

Video Settings

If you have performance issues, try lowering the resolution.

Use 1440p resolution only if you have a very high-end GPU ( GTX 1070/1080 or equivalent)

Keep the V-Sync activated, especially if you have large framerate fluctuations.

If you have framerate under 30 fps, adjust the "Adaptive Resolution" between minimum (50%) and default value (75%).

Advanced Settings

Use the "Auto" presets: this should adjust your visual settings without impacting your framerate.

If you still have performance issues with "Auto" presets:

Try deactivating the "TXAA Anti-Aliasing"

Try lowering the texture details

Despite the technical hiccups on PC, "Dishonored 2" received positive reviews from critics and gamers alike, with the Playstation 4 version getting a score of 89 on Metacritic.
