Niantic Labs may have just hinted a new event that may become a thing for augmented reality game "Pokémon GO" soon, following the recent exclusive event in Japan.

As announced on the official "Pokémon GO" Japan Twitter account, a whole bunch of Lapras just started spawning in the Tohoku region, where Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, and Fukushima Prefecture are located.

For those who are not familiar, these three places have one thing in common. These were the areas affected by the devastating tsunami five years ago.

It looks like Niantic Labs is driving tourism back to Tohoku, and the Lapras event, which will run until Nov. 23, is a perfect way to invite more people to visit the region, according to Forbes.

This special event, while exclusive only to Japan at the moment, may possibly be a sign of a new event that will be happening in other parts of the world as well.

According to Pokémon GO Hub, these "Pokémon GO" targeted spawn events, referred to by Niantic Labs as "phenomena," may be likened to the "anomalies" in the developer's other augmented reality game "Ingress."

An "Anomaly," also called "XM Anomaly," is an official storyline event run by Niantic, wherein players, referred to as "agents," accomplish various quests and objectives and compete against other factions.

Japan's Lapras event may just be the start of many similar events in the future. Just like "Ingress," there may be events wherein the three teams, Mystic, Valor and Instinct, may compete against one another beyond taking gyms.

Niantic Labs may also just simply spawn a particular Pokémon in a specific area, and could possibly be related to holidays such as the recent Halloween event. Similar events may happen on other holiday as well like Ice Pokémon during Christmas or a specific Pokémon on Valentine's Day.

Either way, Niantic Labs is sure gearing up for more events in the future for "Pokémon GO." Stay tuned for more updates.
