Earlier this year, the reports surfaced online that Google has picked up Asus to manufacture the Nexus-branded tablet that will feature a 7-inch tablet and could turn out be "iPad killer". Surprisingly, a new notion has hit the blogosphere today indicating that Google and Samsung are working together on a new Nexus device and this co-branded device is believed to be a tablet.
Samsung Nexus tablet has been tipped via Google's source code, which is mirrored to AOSP tree too, showing off Exynos processor and a powerful GPU. The leaked details suggest a dual-core processor based on Cortex A15 technology. Cortex A15 is up to 5 times faster than the current generation A9 processors. The SoC is Samsung Exynos 5250 with Mali T-604 GPU (codenamed Vithar) clocked at 533 MHz. The next generation Mali GPU is four times faster than its predecessor. It is to be noted that the Mali-400MP GPU featured in Galaxy S2 is clocked at 266 MHz.
Each new Google-branded Nexus device brings a new Android operating system in the market. Google Nexus tablet is expected to feature Android 5.0 Jelly Bean. However, all the Nexus devices released by the date are smartphones, rather than tablet. But the bits of code indicate a 5-megapixel camera.
Current flagship smartphones feature 8-megapixel camera. So the device, which Samsung and Google are together working on, is basically a tablet. The technology used in display is not specified in AOSP (Android Open Source Project) code, but the screen has a resolution of 1280 X 800 pixels.
From the specs, it appears that Samsung and Google are preparing for their best shot to take on Apple in tablet market. However, do not expect the Google branded Nexus tablet anytime soon. On the other hand, Apple is also rumored to be working on a 7-inch tablet which is slated for October launch.
