It looks like Ubisoft's next "Assassin's Creed" title, said to be called "Assassin's Creed Empire," may be released next year, if the game's development is doing well like the publisher has described.

According to SegmentNext, Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot said during a recent investor's meeting that the game, which is rumored to be set in Ancient Egypt, is coming along nicely. The executive also said that he has recently seen the game and it is looking nice so far.

The French publishing studio has previously said that there may not be a mainline "Assassin's Creed" next year. The franchise is currently being looked at, along with other popular Ubisoft franchise "Far Cry," Ubisoft VP of Editorial Tommy François told IGN in an interview in September.

"I'll tell you what," François said, "we believe Alpha for these games needs to be one year before release. We're trying to achieve that. That's super f****** blunt, I don't even know if I'm allowed to say this. This is the goal we're going for: Alpha one year before, more quality, more polish."

"So if this means biting the [bullet] and not having an Assassin's game, or a 'Far Cry' [in 2017], f*** it," François added.

"We still need to have an Alpha, and we need it available as early as we possibly can, because the more time we have for this the more polish we have," the Ubisoft VP explained. "The more time we can change, refine, swap systems. You just can't take shortcuts."

But if Guillemot himself said that the game is looking good as early as now, there is a possibility that the next "Assassin's Creed" game may be out by 2017 after all. The Ubisoft CEO has clarified, however, that they don't have an exact release date window for the upcoming game, according to GamingBolt.

"We can't say much about that yet," Guillemot said. "We are working hard on this game, and it will be launched when ready."

Fans have much to look forward to when "Assassin's Creed Empire" finally hits the shelves, hopefully the soonest time possible. In the meantime, there's "Assassin's Creed Ezio Collection" coming out on Nov. 15, and the much awaited "Assassin's Creed" movie, starring Michael Fassbender, will be leaping to the big screen in December.
