Funimation, in a partnership with Toei Animation, announced its plans to work on an English dub for "Dragon Ball Super." The licensing company will also start simulcasting the newest episodes on November 5.
The English-subtitled episodes of the anime will be added to their FunimationNow streaming service to its anime library at 10pm Pacific Time today, although there are no reports yet on when fans can expect the dubbed versions to arrive, IGN reported.
The "Dragon Ball Super" license, in addition to digital downloads and streaming, contains merchandise, TV broadcast and video rights for United States and Canada. Aside from the release date, casting details for the English dub will also be announced at a later time, according to Crunchyroll.
"Dragon Ball Super" is the newest iteration of the "Dragon Ball" series which became popular during the 1980s until today, from the original "Dragon Ball," "Dragon Ball Z," and "Dragon Ball GT." A revised series of "Dragon Ball Z" named "Dragon Ball Z Kai" was also released on 2009 as part of the series' 20th anniversary.
Today, 18 years after "Dragon Ball GT," fans will enjoy a new story from series creator Akira Toriyama. This time, Goku has taken a new role as a radish farmer after Majin Buu was defeated in "Dragon Ball Z." He and the other heroes have settled into normal lives with Planet Earth finally at peace.
However, they cannot get too relaxed as Beerus, the powerful God of Destruction, has awakened to fulfill a prophecy revealing his passing at the hands of an even more threatening being. Goku and his comrades will take on their most powerful enemy as Beerus goes to Earth to search for the Saiyan God.
"Dragon Ball Super" aired its first episode in the US on a number of anime streaming websites last month.
