Nintendo's upcoming mobile game "Super Mario Run" is expected to arrive on iOS and Android devices soon. There are reports, however, that point to a possible Nintendo Switch version for the game.
According to Gadgets 360, a trademark filed in Japan may have possibly dropped a hint that the supposed mobile game will also come to the home console.
This trademark was spotted by NEOGaf user Rösti. The forumer has pointed out that in September, Nintendo has filed a trademark for "Super Mario Run," and the trademark includes "home video game machines."
The translation of the first part is shown below:
9 Program for home video game machines, home video game storage medium storing a program for the machine, download or you can install a home video game machine for the program and additional data, a program for portable electronic game machine, a portable electronic a storage medium storing a program for a game machine, downloaded or installable portable electronic game machine program and additional data, arcade video game machine program, a storage medium storing programs for arcade video game machine , download or can be installed for business use video game machine for the program and additional data...
Interestingly, the trademark also shows "arcade video game machine program," which also hints that "Super Mario Run" can possibly hit Japanese arcades as well.
Another forumer, Lord Error, pointed out that Nintendo has previously announced that "Super Mario Run is a timed exclusive for iOS, which means that the game could possibly come to other platforms as well.
It would make perfect sense to be able to run smartphone games on the Nintendo Switch, as the console is fitted with an Nvidia Tegra chip.
Nintendo has also said before that while Nintendo Switch is not expected to run Wii U discs and 3DS cartridges, the gaming company giant refused to comment on whether it can run smartphone games, saying that they cannot comment on this right now, according to an interview with Famitsu (via Perfectly Nintendo).
"Super Mario Run" will be released on iOS this December, with the Android launch to follow sometime next year.
