Electronic Arts declared that the company is willing to delay its upcoming sci-fi game "Mass Effect Andromeda" if it's deemed necessary.
During an earnings call, Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen commented that they would push the release date of the highly anticipated game again only if it needs to be improverd further, according to Gamespot.
"Right now, 'Mass Effect' is tracking extremely well," Jorgensen said. "The game looks beautiful. And we're really pleased with its progress. However, as you've seen, we are willing to make moves in launch dates if we feel it's necessary to deliver the right player experience."
Fans have been waiting for the next title in the highly successful "Mass Effect" franchise, and this was not the first time the game was delayed. The sci-fi title was originally slated for a 2016 release, only for it to be moved to the first quarter of 2017.
This was also not the first time that a delay in release date is hinted. According to Middle of Nowhere Gaming, Bioware had difficulties intertwining narrative with an open world playstyle, and has become the biggest challenge for the team.
"Giving players the chance to move in the direction they want to go much more openly, explore where they want to go too, and then the narrative keeps up... that's been a real big learning point for us," Bioware studio general manager and vice president Aaryn Flynn said.
"Working through that and learning around that... It's been a lot of our studio's work these past five years through 'Dragon Age Inquisition' and now through this - to really learn how to do that better and better," Flynn continued. "We've got lots more learning to do, but I'm really very happy with how the team is doing this with 'Mass Effect Andromeda'."
Flynn also commented that connecting the narrative to an open world gameplay style is "a lot of work," adding that the studio has underestimated the level of difficulty this involves.
Fans can't help but hear warning bells when Flynn said that the developer has "lots more learning to do," which sparks speculation of a delay for the much-awaited game.
Earlier this month, publishing company Dark Horse has accidentally leaked the release date for "Mass Effect: Andromeda," as seen on an Amazon listing for its upcoming "Mass Effect" artbook "The Art of Mass Effect: Andromeda," to be released on Mar. 21, 2017.
A sentence on the description states that the hard-cover book will be released simultaneously with the game, according to Black Girl Nerds. That part was since removed from the Amazon listing.
