Google Maps for Android has been updated to version 6.7, bringing support for local offers and indoor directions for supported businesses. Businesses can also share interior photos to paint a clearer picture for consumers.

The update brings three features to Google Maps for Android: local offers, indoor walking directions and interior photos. Photos are entirely option, but Google is encouraging store owners to add photos.

The local offers update is the first time Google Maps has shown the proximity of local deals. Services such as Groupon allow users to search for deals close to a location, while deals such as Facebook Offers attempt to display deals on a map. Google Maps shows the proximity.

Access to local offers is gained through the icon in the upper left which links to Navigation, Latitude, Places and other features. PCMag notes those links didn't show until zoomed out and selecting Offers. Clicking the upper right-hand icon shows the deals on a map.

Back in November, Google brought indoor directions; the app shows where users are in a supported building, automatically displaying the floor which a user is standing on. A blue dot shows the location, as it would when using the service outside. An example given for when using the service indoors was at an airport, locating a departure/arrival gate or a baggage claim.

"When you're inside an airport, shopping mall, or retail store, a common way to figure out where you are is to look for a freestanding map director or ask an employee for help. Starting today, with the release of Google Maps 6.0 for Android, that directory is brought to the palm of your hands, helping you to determine where you are, what floor you're on, and where to go indoors," Brian McClendon, vice president of engineering for Google Earth and Maps, said back then in a blog post.

Locations supported alongside the announcement were Ikea and the Mall of America, among others. A full list of indoor maps for the U.S. and Japan is provided by Google.

Google has previously encouraged users to upload photos when building tour of famous worldwide landmarks, which can be viewed from Google Maps.
