Disney officially announced the development of "High School Musical 4." While there were no further updates about it, the film continues to create a buzz, especially about the possible return of original cast Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. However, some news media reported otherwise.

It was announced last March that the fourth installment for "High School Musical" was in development with a casting call for actors to audition as new characters for the East High Wildcats and their school rivals, the West High Knights. However, it was reported that none of the original cast are returning.

Casting directors for "High School Musical 4" are Jason La Padura, C.S.A., Natalie Hart, C.S.A., and Kendra Patterson, C.S.A., of LaPadura/Hart/Patterson.

The original "High School Musical" in 2006 starred Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman, bringing the teen stars to worldwide fame. Recently, the group reunited for a 10-year anniversary special that aired on Disney Channel which sparked rumors of the possible return of the Disney teen musical drama movie. Furthermore, fans expected that the original casts will be part of the new movie.

"Seeing the cast of High School Musical back together again reaffirms what made it special 10 years ago," said Gary Marsh, president of Disney Channels Worldwide. "Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere."

However, according to new reports, Disney is rebooting the franchise with a whole new crop of Wildcats and bringing along East High's rivals, the West Hgh Knights to the musical masterpiece.

President Gary Marsh told E! News, "High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the 'High School Musical' franchise."

For now, there were no official updates of "High School Musical 4" but fans are still hopeful that they could at least see Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, including the other original casts to make a cameo appearance on the upcoming sequel.
