Popular anime and manga series "Tokyo Ghoul" will be turned into a live action movie soon, and fans are dying to find out if it will do justice to their favorite series.
As with all film adaptations, it is important to get the perfect actor for the lead role. For "Tokyo Ghoul" main protagonist Kaneki Ken, we have Japanese actor Masataka Kubota. But is he the perfect person for the role?
Masataka Kubota's Profile
Masataka Kubota, born Aug. 6, 1988, is an actor who has been in the industry since he was only eighteen years old. He started out on television show "Kazoku Zenzai" ("A Happy Family"), but has since taken on more popular roles in television dramas and movies.
Notable Roles
Kubota is more widely known for his award winning performance in the 2015 TV adaptation of another popular manga and anime series, "Death Note." The actor's portrayal of Yagami Light has won him the coveted Best Actor award in the 86th Television Drama Academy Awards that same year.
He also had a small but important role in the film adaptation of "Rurouni Kenshin" as Yukishiro Tomoe's fiance, Kiyosato Akira.
Kubota is also included in the critically acclaimed 2010 remake of "13 Assassins" as Shoziro Ogura.
Kubota As Kaneki Ken
With a couple of awards under his belt, and having portrayed Yagami Light perfectly in "Death Note," there is no doubt that Kubota will justify the role of "Tokyo Ghoul"'s troubled protagonist Kaneki Ken.
According to Japan Info, even the creator of "Tokyo Ghoul" himself, Ishida Sui, thought that Kubota is the perfect actor for the role, and has imagined him as Kaneki Ken way before the live-action cast was finalized. The mangaka was impressed by Kubota's acting chops in the 2011 movie "We Can't Change The World But, We Wanna Build a School in Cambodia."
Knowing that Kubota will definitely nail the role, fans can look forward to seeing their favorite protagonist in the flesh. "Tokyo Ghoul" live-action movie is slated for a Summer 2017 release.
