"Ray Donovan" Season 5 is certainly happening with its comeback date in the summer of 2017.

In the last season, it is clear to fans that Bridget (Kerris Dorsey) is leaving for college which would possibly denotes that she will only have few appearances in the upcoming "Ray Donovan" Season 5. On the other hand, Abby's (Paul Malcomson) cancer is in recovery.

However, in an interview with TVLine David Hollander, the showrunner hinted that there might be a lie in Abby's claims that she is finally a cancer-free.

"I don't know. Whether she is a reliable narrator or not, what Ray needed to hear at that moment was that she was safe. And that nothing can touch them. Whether it's true or not, we'll look into that as we go forward," said Hollander.

He added that the plot about Abby's cancer made the character more exciting and even pushed him "into wanting to create a dynamic that would shift the way people saw her (Paula Malcomson)."

"[Abby's cancer diagnosis] allowed her to behave with a little more freedom and a little more power, like shooting an intruder, making out with her doctor, taking Conor to the shooting range. She's suddenly a character who has a lot more agency and a lot more power within the story," the showrunner said.

Fans have been wondering if this will continue on the Season 5. Hollander said that the Stage Zero scenario is based on a true story. Her wife was even diagnosed with the same sickness.

Meanwhile, Liev Schreiber's character is rumored to meet an accident in the "Ray Donovan" Season 5, however, this might not be terrible.

Hollander told The Hollywood Reporter that he would not end the show with Ray's passing.

"Oh lord, no. No, no. That would be the easy way out of the storytelling," he said, adding that his "first priority is to dream up a really gorgeous year five, to make sure it delivers a show that, should it live for a sixth, seventh or eighth season, will be satisfying to the audience and artists."

"Ray Donovan" Season 5 is set to premier on Showtime in July 2017.
