What will the next-generation iPhone be called? iPhone 5? iPhone 4G LTE? New iPhone? Most people are confident that Apple might name its next smartphone, "the new iPhone", same as the tech giant did with the third generation iPad. However, recent developments indicate otherwise.

Recent news is that Apple is going after iphone5.com domain, indicating that the sixth-generation iPhone could be officially named as iPhone 5. Apple has filed a complaint with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) to gain control over the iphone5.com domain. Launched in 2010, iphone5.com is a small forum with 300-400 registered members. The owners and members of the forum are in no mood to let Apple gain control over the domain.

"We as members here before the 4s was even released at iphone5.com should stand our ground against Apple. We have every right to be a fan of the iPhone and to talk and discuss about it. THEY WIILL NOT SHUT US DOWN!!!!!," said a member, raising voice against Apple's action, in a post on iphone5.com.

Apple's last experience with WIPO was in November last year, when the tech giant seized seven domains including iphone4s.com and ipods.com. Undoubtedly, WIPO has the authority to make that happen, but only in case it believes that the domain is tricking into thinking that it is an official site or damaging company's reputation. Case number D2012-0951 is currently active between Apple and WIPO.

Last year, the seven domains that WIPO seized on the request of Apple were redirecting visitors to pornographic content. But this one, holding a small discussion area for iPhone users, appears to be legitimate. But still there is a little hope for the domain owner(s) to stand against Apple.

In case of third generation iPad, Apple ditched its naming convention with the launch of the new iPad (of course still many people refer the new iPad as iPad 3). Many analysts say that there will be no surprise to see another unnamed iGadget - the new iPhone - getting released in the market. But, Apple's pursuit of iphone5.com domain makes it almost certain that the next iPhone will be called Apple iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 is expected to feature 4-inch Retina display, quad-core A6 processor chip, 8-megapixel camera and iOS 6. Apple is expected to roll-out its new flagship model in June, at the WWDC event or, as the majority of Apple watchers believe, in October.
