After multiple cast changes and changes on location, "Mistresses" was officially canceled by ABC a month ago and the summer soap won't return for season 5.
To recall, it has been a rollercoaster ride for the American mystery drama. After filming its two seasons in Los Angeles with Alyssa Milano as lead, the show then relocated to Canada in an effort to trim costs. In the process, the series then replaced Milano with Jennifer Esposito. She played a new character in season 3 but did not return for season 4.
It was then last year when "Mistresses" got tax incentives from the California Film Commission and relocated back to Los Angeles for its fourth and final season.
The "Mistresses season 4" ended the killing of Yunjin Kim's character, Karen Kim and jumped ahead a little over a year. April (Rochelle Aytes) and Joss (Jes Macallan) both welcomed baby daughters and were happily married to their spouses. However, something was still haunting them- their dear old friend Karen.
According to the report, the women went to Karen's funeral but April claimed to have seen a woman resembling Karen in her store. It was also revealed in the last season that a coffee barista saw Karen and stopped in for her usual drink earlier that day, even showing her signature on her receipt as a proof. And when April called Karen's brother in Korea, they discovered that Karen's ashes never arrived.
This scenario kept fans from hoping that the popular series still has a chance to extend until the fifth season. Fans even suggested that potentially streaming service like Netflix or Hulu could pick it up if ABC won't renew "Mistresses season 5".
Unfortunately, the series reportedly appeared to have lost huge on its fan base over the years. The pilot episode in 2013 brought in 4.4 million viewers while the season 4 finale dipped to 2.5 million viewers.
Brett Tucker, who portrayed Harry for the past four seasons, is the only cast member to comment on the said "Mistresses" cancellation
