Supposedly, players are expecting "Mafia 3" to run best on PCs given that specifications can get beefy enough to run even the most graphically and resource demanding game. But why is "Mafia 3" then locked at 30 FPS?
PC Gamer as well as the official "Mafia 3" game website stated that the game was going to be locked at 30 FPS on PCs. Initially, PC Gamer also received the code and got to try it out earlier. Long story short, through FRAPS monitoring, the game is locked at 30 FPS, which turned out to be a major bummer.
Lowering the graphics didn't change anything, despite being run with a GTX 970 with i5-6600K overclocked to 4.5 GHz and 16 GB or RAM.
The official website create a statement regarding the knowledge of the occurring problem. However, the message also indicated that the game would actually be locked at 30 FPS for every platform on launch. Still, the developers will cook up a patch that will let PC gamers crank up the FPS to higher values.
The last update that the official site made was the inclusion of 30, 60 and unlimited frames-per-second option, which can be set at the video menu. This will also be arriving sooner that what they have originally planned it to be rolled out.
The developers estimate that the patch will be out this weekend and that they will be keeping with the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend.
"Mafia 3" is scheduled to be released this October 7. However, it already received an underwhelming score of 6/10 from Steam due to a number of technical problems, including clunkly and sluggish controls, muddy textures and the current deal breaker for PC gamers, the locked 30 FPS.
The game also comes out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and macOS, and hopefull with better graphical options soon, which could help it stand out from today's open-world crime-themed shooters.
