It has been a long time since fans have heard anything about George RR Martin's latest fantasy novel, "The Winds of Winter."

"Game of Thrones" and George R.R. Martin fans alike have been speculating about the release date of much awaited "The Winds of Winter", the sixth book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Fans have now been waiting for almost five years since "A Dance With Dragons" came out, and it looks like fans would need to wait for a little longer.

This is not the first time that the legendary writer has kept his fans waiting for so long, according to iDigitalTimes. The books in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series has always been years apart, with "A Dance with Dragons" coming out six years after "A Feast for Crows."

While the delays are not surprising, it is definitely frustrating for long time fans of the series. This was also the case back then when it took a long time for Martin to release " A Dance With Dragons," giving birth to what they called a "shadow fandom," a group of people who are devoted to attacking Martin's slow progress, as well as the fans defending him, The New Yorker reported.

Despite fans urging him to finish the book, it looks like the author is taking his sweet time writing it. It is particularly frustrating for the fans, as his official blog is filled with entries about The Emmys, "Wild Cards" and even football, but no word on "The Winds of Winter."

There were certain leaks reported over the weekend, particularly about "The Winds of Winter"'s ISBN being registered, according to a Reddit post. It got fans excited, as they interpreted this as a sign of an upcoming release date for the book. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

"Well, it could be that they're setting an ISBN for a special edition (Maybe an illustrated edition) or it could be a corporate reshuffling," "A Song of Ice and Fire" luminary BryndenBFish, owner of the "Wars and Politics of Ice and Fire" blog, said. (via winteriscoming.net)

George R.R. Martin will definitely show "The Winds of Winter" soon, but with the pace he is following right now, a 2016 release date may be unlikely.
