A huge "Pokémon GO" update, the buddy system, was recently released by Niantic Labs this week, but what dataminers discovered is even bigger news.

Pokémon trainers have been waiting for the arrival of the Legendary Pokémon in the game, namely Mew, Mewtwo, the legendary birds Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno, ever since the game went live.

A dedicated "Pokemon GO" fan and Youtuber has discovered the legendary Pokémon in the game by checking its source code, which means that the powerful Pokémon will indeed be included in the roster soon, possibly through in-game special events similar to Niantic's other game, Ingress.

Now another discovery connected to the Legendary Pokémon has been found in the latest 0.37.0 update. According to Otaku Kart, dataminers have discovered the km requirements for each Legendary Pokémon and Ditto, which can be found below:

Ditto: km_buddy_distance: 3

Articuno: km_buddy_distance: 5

Zapdos: km_buddy_distance: 5

Moltres: km_buddy_distance: 5

Mewtwo: km_buddy_distance: 5

Mew: km_buddy_distance: 5

To simplify, each Legendary Pokémon is required to be walked 5kms in order to get a Candy from them. As for Ditto, it only requires 3kms.

Otaku Kart also speculated that the addition of the Legendary Pokémon and Ditto in the buddy update means that these Pokémon are usable in battle, a theory that has long been a topic of discussion in the community.

This may also mean that players will finally be able to see the Legendaries in the game, and Niantic Labs may be gearing up for its first special event.

On the other hand, Niantic is still busy with its latest update rollouts, and the addition to the buddy system may simply be a placeholder for future updates, so fans shouldn't hold their breath for any announcements soon.

The buddy system is now available in "Pokémon GO," Forbes reported. The buddy system allows trainers to choose a Pokémon to walk by their side, gaining candies as they walk.
