Blizzard has been dropping hints about its next "Overwatch" hero, the mysterious Sombra, since the game was launched in May. Now fans may have just reached their breaking point trying to uncover the mystery behind the upcoming character.
What started as a few subtle hints towards the introduction of the new character has now spiraled into a more complicated wild goose chase, with alternate-reality game experts Game Detectives on the case.
Those who are updated about the whole Sombra mystery may be familiar with the website amomentincrime.com, which shows a loading bar touted to be a countdown towards Sombra's major reveal.
The site originally featured a countdown clock, and when it reached zero on Aug. 25, it was replaced by the painfully slow moving loading counter, which is currently at 16 percent.
The mystery of Sombra went from exciting to increasingly frustrating, and even the folks at Game Detectives are getting tired of waiting.
"A lot of people are disappointed with how much we're having to wait," Game Detective Discord chat admin "Crash" told PC Gamer. "It's mostly just the fact that a countdown was hyped up and anticipated to lead to another trail, but instead just led to another countdown."
Blizzard has so far been successfully leaving cryptic teasers about its upcoming "Overwatch" hero, but fans have been solving and spotting these clues quicker than they may have anticipated.
"The level of engagement that Blizzard has shown has been commendable," Crash says. "They're committed to creating well-designed puzzles, monitoring our progress, and even interacting with us through Sombra's messages."
"The puzzles have been really engaging thus far, " Crash continued. "When there are actually puzzles to solve, our entire community just pounces on them and tears them apart."
The final loading bar clue, however, may have just spoiled the fun for everyone else.
Is Sombra finally going to be revealed in "Overwatch" soon? Stay tuned for updates.
