It looks like fans would have to continue the long wait for another "Elder Scrolls" title to hit the shelves.
In a recent interview with Game Star during this year's Gamescom, Bethesda's Pete Hines said that "Elder Scrolls 6" would not be happening anytime soon.
"There are at least two big games from Bethesda Game Studios before Bethesda get around to 'Elder Scrolls 6'," Hines said during the interview, according to SegmentNext.
Hines also said that "Elder Scrolls 6" would not be appearing at Gamescom next year, nor would it be announced in 2018.
Just in case fans start counting towards "Elder Scrolls 6" release, Bethesda games like "Dishonored" and "Prey" are not counted in the "two big games" that Hines referred to in the interview.
The Bethesda VP of PR and Marketing specifically said that the two games will be coming from Bethesda Game Studios, the studio responsible for the "Fallout" and "Elder Scrolls" series.
Hines has also expressed a more frank view about the demand for "Elder Scrolls 6" in a separate interview with MMORPG.com.
"They're not a two-button vending machine, where first we press Elder Scrolls and then we press Fallout, and then we press Elder Scrolls and then we press Fallout," Hines remarked. "They're an incredibly talented studio of creative people."
"They've now made four games in a row, all of which were named Game of the Year," Hines continued, "and they have a right to decide what they're interested in working on next and which direction they want to go."
At E3, Todd Howard implied that "Elder Scrolls 6" is in development, but said that the release date for the game is still "a very long way off." Hines then confirmed on Twitter that the game is not even in development yet, and it will be "years and years" before the game even launches.
It has been a long time since "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" was released. With everything that was said recently, it looks like it would be an even longer waiting game for "Elder Scrolls 6."
