The latest NBA trade rumors hinted that the Cleveland Cavaliers are currently looking out for a trade option for their shooting guard J.R. Smith. The team are reportedly trying to rebuild their roster to match the upcoming competition from the Golden State Warriors, the New York Knicks, and the Boston Celtics.
NBC Sports reported that even though the team want to trade in talented players, they have zero salary cap space. To add to their woes, J.R. Smith is asking for $15 million per year to re-sign with the team. Reports claimed that this might prompt the team to exchange Smith with other players, which will help them in building a strong roster.
The Cleveland Cavaliers might think of signing Philadelphia 76ers Nerlens Noel in order to add a big player to their team. Reports claimed that the Cavaliers want to add a center player to their team and Noel has emerged as the best option for them with an average of 11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game last season.
Meanwhile, Chat Sports reported that the Cavaliers might also opt to trade in Smith to the Los Angeles Lakers in order to bring in their shooting guard Nick Young. Reports claimed that Young still has two years of his contract remaining amounting to $11 million. So, even if the Cavaliers choose to exchange him for Smith, they will have to pay him less as compared to the latter player.
Also, the NBA trade rumors also hinted that even the Lakers are interested in signing J.R. Smith. Recently, the Los Angeles team re-signed their point guard Jordan Clarkson. Sports Rageous reported that Clarkson will possibly be Cavaliers shooting guard in the next season and thus, the team is hoping that Smith will provide the necessary support to Clarkson on the field.
