"Tokyo Ghoul" fans may be in for a big disappointment, as the eagerly anticipated season 3 might be delayed. Recently, a live-action movie adaptation of Sui Ishida's dark-fantasy manga has been greenlit.
The good news came to light when the seventh volume of Sui Ishida's "Toyko Ghoul:re" manga announced on June 16 that the original "Tokyo Ghoul" will get a live-action film with "Super Star" director Kentaro Hagiwara at the helm, Anime News Network reported.
On June 24, the "Tokyo Ghoul" live-action film official website revealed the two lead cast members - "Death Note" star Masataka Kubota as Ken Kaneki and "My Neighbor Seki" star Fumika Shimizu as the heroine, Toka Kirishima.
With an intended release in theaters across Japan next summer, the principal photography for "Tokyo Ghoul" live-action film will begin later this month until September. More details about the project will be revealed soon.
While some are soothed with the live-action news, numerous avid fans cannot help but wonder whether the live-action adaptation will spell impairment for the development of the anime's third season. Several reports claimed "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will be delayed until the first quarter of 2017 due to the original manga's lack of story content.
The storyline of "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is not yet known, though there are reports claiming that Touka Kirishima's background story will be the focal point of the new season. Other reports suggest that the new season would depict a new protagonist, which could be the persona of Haise Sasaki.
"This is perhaps the most disillusioning, psychological and darkest plot line that we will attempt to adapt," Anime writer Bob told Anime Maru. "Although we cannot guarantee that more gory scenes such as Touka's standardized exam test-taking will not be censored."
As of press time, the "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 release date remains uncertain. Stay tuned for more "Tokyo Ghoul" news and updates.
