Japanese publisher Ichijinsha launched a website on July 25, Monday, to announce that Kazuya Minekura's "Saiyuki Reload Blast" manga is getting an anime adaptation. The website is also streaming a 20th-anniversary video of the series.

The announcement did not state what kind of anime it would be. The official website for Ichijinsha's Comic Zero-Sum magazine revealed last month that the manga will have an important announcement on the magazine's July 28 issue.

"Saiyuki Reload Blast" is the fourth installment in the manga series. It is the sequel of "Saiyuki Reload" manga, which ran from March 2002 to June 2009.

"Saiyuki" follows the story of four anti-hero-like heroes - namely, the monk Genjyo Sanzo, the half-demon named Sha Gojyo, the monkey king Son Goku, and Cho Hakkai (aka Cho Gonou), a man who transformed into a devil - who face a number of different antagonists throughout the series.

The four heroes have been dispatched by the Sanbutsushin to India with a tasked to stop the conceivable resurrection of the Ox-Demon-King called Gyumaoh. The Sanbutsushin is the three aspects of Buddha, who relay the orders of heaven.

Along the way, Genjyo Sanzo, Sha Gojyo, Son Goku and Cho Hakkai are assailed by bumbling assassins, and terrible climate. Gyumaoh's concubine Gyokumen Koushou and a mad scientist Dr. Nii Jianyi continue their attempts to restore the long-dead king.

Their experiment, a taboo blend of science and magic, brings forth the "Minus Wave," contaminating the majority of the demons in Shangri-La with madness. The manga comprises of five separate series - "Saiyuki," "Saiyuki Reload," Saiyuki Reload Blast," "Saiyuki Gaiden," and "Saiyuki Ibu." More details about the project will be revealed soon.

Meanwhile, the 20th-anniversary video also revealed that a "Saiyuki Festa 2017" will be held at the Makuhari Messe Event Hall in Chiba, Japan, from Jan. 7-8, 2017, Anime News Network has learned.

The event performers include Akira Ishida, Soichiro Hoshi, Toshihiko Seki, and Hiroaki Hirata. Much to the delight of many, the anticipated "Saiyuki Festa 2017" event will also feature an exhibition of the manga's original art.
