It's a bad time to be a "Dragon Ball Super" fan as the immensely popular anime series might be in danger of being put on hiatus. It comes after the series creator Akita Torimaya, 61, reportedly complained about the anime's overall quality.
"Dragon Ball Super," which premiered on July 5, 2015, received several harsh criticisms from Japanese and Western audiences because of its poor animation style, stating that the quality was seemingly stuck in the 90's.
"'Dragon Ball' once became a thing of the past to me," Attack of the FanBoy quoted Toriyama as saying. "But after that, I got angry about the live-action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems 'Dragon Ball' has grown on me so much I can't leave it alone."
Hence, Jobs & Hire reported that the anime's poor animation could be the reason for the series' sudden demise or hiatus, particularly now that Viz Media are gradually publishing a few chapters of "Dragon Ball Super" manga online. It is believed that a few months break is necessary for the improvement of "Dragon Ball Super" anime series' visual presentation.
In a separate interview with Anime News Network, anime producer Norihiro Hayashida expressed that the criticism was a bit exaggerated, adding that individuals were reprimanding the entire series in view of a few bad sequences that were done by new animators.
"Yes, this is a real dilemma," Hayashida admitted. "There are a lot of newbies coming up through the industry right now, and production time is limited. That's the reason why anime quality has deteriorated slightly."
