A full anime film has been green-lit for light novel series "No Game, No Life."
Production for a "No Game, No Life" animated movie was given the go signal. The announcement was made during the MF Bunko J Summer School Festival on Sunday, Anime News Network reported.
The light novel's creator, Yuu Kamiya, posted an artwork on the "No Game, No Life" Twitter page to celebrate the news.
"No Game, No Life" follows the story of two step siblings, Shiro and Sora, the two members of the undefeated gamer group Blank. One day, Tet, the god of games, challenged them to a simple chess match and was defeated by Blank.
Thinking that the current world they live in is nothing more than a "crappy game," the two were brought to Disboard, an alternate reality where settling issues through games are the norm.
Kamiya started working on the first "No Game, No Life" light novel in 2012, and finished a total of eight volumes published until December 2015. A manga adaptation came from him and his wife, Masahiro Hiragi, in 2013.
The "No Game, No Life" light novel also inspired an anime television series that premiered in April 2014. It was directed by Atsuko Ishizuka ("Prince of Stride: Alternative," "Nana," "Chi's Sweet Home") and was animated by Madhouse ("One Punch Man," "Death Note," "Hunter x Hunter (2011)").
The "No Game, No Life" anime was brought to the US by Sentai Filmworks and aired on Crunchyroll.
Despite getting a full blown movie, there is currently no announcement for the second season of the "No Game, No Life" anime.
There is no official word from either Kamiya nor Madhouse about this issue, however, fans have speculated that the "No Game, No Life" anime was discontinued due to budget constraints.
