Capcom's upcoming "Resident Evil 7" had their fans going crazy after its demo was revealed in this year's E3. Immediately, the demo got compared to Konami's "Silent Hills" demo "P.T" (Playable Teaser.) They were at it already even before P.T launched and it was a mere coincidence, according to the producer.
"When PT surfaced we were already into development and we were surprised to see it," Kawata states in an interview with Eurogamer at E3. "I'm worried about how my jokes come across but I hear Brits like black humour. So, out of everyone, we were the most relieved when PT didn't come out."
"P.T" was a very great example though and RE7 saw it as a good sign in the direction that they were taking with their game development. This is evident with P.T's well-received atmospheric horror game represented in first person perspective and in a defenseless state.
With or without the VR in PlayStation 4, "Resident Evil 7 demo" will be played in first-person view. Just like the P.T was. The main game, however, is expected to be more of a classic RE approach with puzzles, resource management and survival.
With VR feature included, Kawata assured that too much movement is not required to avoid uneasy feeling while playing with the headset.
"Looking at what others are doing with VR, if you want to deal with the comfort issue - because some people do get sick - the most extreme solution is to just not have people moving, to be fixed in place. We saw that with our Kitchen demo last year, when you are strapped down and other things go on around you.
That satisfies the needs of people who need to feel comfortable with VR, but it also limits the game for those who want a full experience. They want to get out into the game going on around them, so we challenged ourselves to make a game that lets them do that."
Game Director Koushi Nakanishi stated that the game won't include supernatural elements in "Resident Evil 7" despite the perfect setting it showed on the demo. Still, the feature was considered at some point.
"We haven't turned Resident Evil into a ghost story," he said.
"At the beginning we did consider everything, though - and wondered what we could bring in for more of a supernatural dimension. But we didn't end up going down that route."-Nakanishi added.
