The shotgun is probably the most potent among "Resident Evil 7" weapons to combat the bloodthirsty occupants of Baker Mansion. Yes, it is possible to finish "Resident Evil 7" without the weapon, but who would do so if there is an easier way around.

The first not-so-mandatory requisite to get the shotgun is to have the "lesser" handgun first. Gamerant provided a separate guide where to find the handgun. This lesser weapon is needed to dispatch mold creatures that lurk in corners on the way to the basement. Defeat the Garage Boss first and get the handgun from the tub.

Immediately proceed to the basement and shoot the enemies in the head with a handgun. Inch by inch, "Resident Evil 7" players should make it through the Processing Area to get the second requisite which is the Scorpion Key. There is a pile of flesh on a table in the middle of the room where the key is embedded, Windows Central instructed.

In the Main Hall on the second floor, players will need to either take down or sneak past Jack Baker to get into the Recreation Room by using the Scorpion Key. By doing this, players are given access to a broken shotgun and other items.

In the main hall a bust statue holding a functional shotgun can be found. Players are advised to take the functional weapon and replace it with the broken shotgun from the Recreation room. Otherwise, players can't unlock the door and get out of the room.

Now you have one of the most powerful "Resident Evil 7" weapon at your disposal. Just remember that the shotgun does a lot of damage when fired at close range, but dong so at long distance will be a waste of ammo since enemies can easily recover.
