Draw Something - the social drawing app developed by OMGPOP - has taken just 50 days to reach a record 50 million downloads. The record figure means the app is the fastest downloaded mobile game of all time.

That's according to Zynga, who acquired the company, though Apple hasn't revealed the download figures to confirm or deny its claims. During peak hours, Draw Something users reportedly create 3,000 drawings per second.

"We believe it's not only the fastest growing mobile game of all time - 50 days to hit 50 million downloads - but one of the fastest growing web sensations that we've seen," Zynga said in a statement.

Zynga bought OMGPOP last month for just under $180 million, with an additional $30 million in employee retention, though one employee did leave as he didn't want to work with the company. Chief executive Dan Porter said on Twitter he was the weakest member of the team, though he later apologised. The company was reported to have made a multi billion-dollar offer to buy Rovio, the creators of Angry Birds.

The record figure means that Angry Birds Space has been toppled by Draw Something, which is currently at the top of the Paid and Free charts in the iTunes App Store.

The Pictionary-esque app asks users to draw a picture and, when finished, that picture is sent to the other player who must guess the subject. In Pictionary, players draw an object, person, place, animal or action within a time limit as other players try to guess. Players move around a board; the winner is whoever reaches the end first.

However, the success doesn't come without drawbacks. The app's Twitter users have been the target of a fake Draw Something account, which tweets users telling them they have won a prize. Users who tweet the app's name are the targets.

The fake account claims it's giving away 5,000 prizes to those who visit drawsomethingwinner.com. After being asked a few questions, users are taken to a survey where personal information may need to be entered.

Zynga has also said that over six billion drawings have been created on the app so far.
