UFC President Dana White recently claimed that former bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey's next fight will happen by the end of the year or early 2017. He also hinted that Rousey might fight current UFC champion Amanda Nunes in her comeback title match.
"Ronda's going to make that decision," said White at the UFC 200 post-fight show, as reported by Fox Sports. "Hopefully, I would like to see her fight this year, but it could be early next year, too. Whoever the champion is at the time is who Ronda will fight."
There are reports that Rousey might stand up against Nunes as the Brazilian mixed martial artist recently defeated Miesha Tate to claim the bantamweight title. White hinted that the 28-year-old fighter will be able to defend the title until next year.
Furthermore, Craziest Sports Fights reported that if Rousey is not ready to fight by the end of the year, the next candidate in line will be Holm. The UFC President hinted that the former women's bantamweight champion will likely be the backup plan to fight Nunes in her first title defense.
On the other hand, amidst reports that Rousey is not mentally prepared to make a comeback this year, Washington Post reported that a small Reebok advertisement featuring Ronda has suggested otherwise. Reports claimed that she is all prepared to take up the challenge and bounce back the top position. Back in 2015, Rousey was knocked out by Holly Holm at UFC 193, after which she decided to opt for a hiatus.
Ronda Rousey earlier defended her women's bantamweight title seven times in a row. Reports stated that no fighter since Rousey has been able to repeat the feat. Recently, Amanda Nunes became the fourth UFC champion in under a year.
