The "Crash Bandicoot" remaster can very well be the first step to a brand new "Crash" franchise. It may even pave the way to a new "Crash Bandicoot."

Sony announced during its press conference at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo that the first three "Crash" games, "Crash Bandicoot," "Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back," and Crash Bandicoot: Warped" will all be getting the remaster treatment, prompting a huge cheer from the crowd.

Last year, Sony announced the remake of one of the greatest "Final Fantasy" titles of all time, "Final Fantasy VII." Real tears were shed when the third installment of "Shenmue" was announced. Sony certainly knows how people love nostalgia.

So what does this mean for the "Crash Bandicoot" franchise? A lot, apparently. Sony could be testing the waters to see if the remaster could be the first step in reviving the series.

It could just be a remaster (plus a "Skylanders Imaginators" cameo), but it could well lead to a new "Crash" game in the near future.

Sony's PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan told Game Reactor recently that the possibility of a new "Crash Bandicoot" title is high, while giving the fans a taste of what Sony has in store.

"You know, we've got to keep you guys hoping for stuff that's coming in the future," Ryan said, "Tease you a little bit as well."

It could be possible that Sony is currently in negotiations with Activision to do a new "Crash Bandicoot" title, as the game publisher still holds the rights to the IP, Gamepur reported.

The lovable bandicoot will also be guest starring in "Skylanders Imaginators." Vicarious Vision's David Rodriguez said that the team has maintained Crash's signature quirky personality and innate "Wumpa-ness" in the game.

A post on the Playstation Blog explains on how Crash prepared for his "Skylanders" debut.

"Crash Bandicoot Trilogy Remastered" will be crashing its way to the Playstation 4 next year.
