The music recognition app Shazam has received a brand new update for iOS devices. The latest update allows music, Shazam-enabled TV shows and advertising to be identified in a second, while bringing UI enhancements.
The 5.0 update is available for Shazam Free, Encore and RED apps for iPhone and iPod Touch. The paid apps can be downloaded now.
"We are committed to continually enhancing the Shazam app to ensure we deliver an industry-leading experience.
"With the release of Shazam 5.0 for iPhone and iPod Touch, Shazam fans will be able to get to information they're looking for almost instantaneously, giving them lightning-fast access to content and a deeper experience surrounding the song .. Shazam delivers the fastest and most exciting way to deliver content about television shows, and get more information and even buy products and services from the world's leading brands" Alex Musil, EVP Product for Shazam, said in the press release.
The update means Shazam now takes under a second to identify songs, along with information such as lyrics, tour information and where to buy songs.
The update also brings a new interface, with improvements when sharing to Twitter and Facebook as users can now leave a note or comment. There is also additional language support with Brazilian Portuguese, Korean and Spanish for South America. The total number of languages supported is now 33.
The press release says that Shazam has over 200 million users across 200 countries, adding 1.5 million users every week.
While the update is only coming to iOS for now, the app is available on almost every platform including Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry devices.
In January, Shazam launched Shazam Player, which highlighted the LyricPlay feature. LyricPlay allows users to see the lyrics for a track while it plays.
The updated app is available now from the iTunes Store (requires iTunes). Shazam is also available on Google Play and the Amazon Appstore for Android, as well as the Nokia Store.
The press release adds that all versions of Shazam for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch include unlimited tagging.
