For the makers of "Legend of Zelda," old habits seem to die hard, which might explain why the game's release date for the Wii U has been pushed back anew.

When queried on why the roll out of "Legend of Zelda" has a tendency to be late, Nintendo's longtime chief game designer Shigeru Miyamoto had a ready answer.

"First of all, it would be great if I didn't have to put a release date out at all," Miyamoto told Kotaku in an interview.

"But I have to," he added, finally shedding light on the reason the release date of "Legend of Zelda" on the Wii U has encountered another delay.

However, Nintendo's inability to stick to its timetable on "Zelda's" release doesn't come as a surprise as the game's launch over the past two decades has perennially been late for at least a year.

This is in contrast to "Mario Kart," "Mario Party" and other games of the Nintendo franchise, which are consistently shipped and released on time.

"When we think about the release period for any Zelda game, we really want to get it out as soon as possible so that everybody can play and experience it," explained series producer Eiji Aonuma.

"But every time we make a Zelda, we want to make something new," Aonuma added. "And it's also hard to gauge at what point whatever we consider to be new is done."

In the meantime, there are speculations that the release date of "Legend of Zelda" for the Wii U will be in March 2017 at the earliest.

At the E3 2016, fans got a glimpse of the game courtesy of its makers, reported Tech Advisor. The latest installment of the classic series is set to be launched simultaneously on the Nintendo Wii U and NX.

The release date of "Legend of Zelda" for the Wii U was reportedly scheduled in 2015, but had to be postponed as Nintendo wanted to polish the game before its roll out.
