A new trailer for the video-game-turned-anime series "Danganronpa" was recently revealed by NBC Universal. The short clip gives fans a brief insight of what to expect in "Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy."
The new installment will be split into two volumes: "Despair" and "Future."
According to Siliconera, characters from the second installment, "Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair" will be playing a role in "Despair."
The "Despair" volume will follow the story prior to the events in the video game, Gematsu reported.
The "Future" volume will feature twelve new characters, along with original characters Makoto Naegi, Kyoko Kirigiri, Aoi Asahina and Yasuhiro Hagakure.
As mentioned above, "Danganronpa" was originally a murder mystery visual novel video game developed and published by Spike Chunsoft, who is also responsible for the popular "Zero Escape" series.
The game, titled "Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc," was first released in Japan for the Playstation Portable in 2010, and was later ported to iOS and Android in 2012.
The video game gained popularity in Japan, spawning two manga adaptations and two spin-off novels. The anime adaptation was first aired in July 2013.
"Danganronpa" is introduced to the west by NIS America, who released the remake of the first game on Playstation Vita in 2013. A PC port is also recently released, being made available on Steam in February 2016.
According to Anime News Network, a new game is being planned for this year, to be released for the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita in Japan. Titled "New Danganronpa V3: Minna no Koroshiai Shingakki" will be the first "Danganronpa" title to be released on a home console.
"Danganronpa: The End of Hope's Peak Academy" will be aired in Japan, with the "Future" volume starting on July 11 and the "Despair" volume on July 14. For anime fans in the West, Funimation will also simulcast the anime with English subtitles.
