The life of an Italian mobster awaits in the much anticipated title "Mafia 3," the next installment in the popular "Mafia" series from 2K Games. Here's what we know about the game so far.
What is 'Mafia 3' About?
The story will be set in the '60s, and will revolve around the new protagonist, Lincoln Clay. A biracial orphan, Clay joined the armed forces to raise arms in the Vietnam War.
Clay returned to New Bordeaux after serving in the army, and rejoined the black mob, only to be targeted by the Italian mob. Clay survived, but at the cost of the rest of the black mob members.
Clay swore to get revenge, and now attempts to start his own criminal organization, aided by his allies, Haitian boss Cassandra, Burke from the Irish mob, and Vito Scaletta, the protagonist of "Mafia 2."
Who's Developing The Game This Time?
2K Games' newest studio Hangar 13 will be taking the reins from Illusion Softworks (now known as 2K Czech). "Mafia 3" is the studio's debut title. 2K Czech, however, still had a supporting role in the game's development.
The studio is spearheaded by veteran "Star Wars" game developer Haden Blackman. Blackman has previously worked at LucasArts, according to Polygon.
How Does Gameplay Work in "Mafia 3"?
In "Mafia 3," freedom of choice is king, according to GamesRadar. Instead of completing several missions to complete the game, "Mafia 3" presents the players with the freedom to choose how to grow their mafia empire, and take down the opposition at the same time.
The variation in gameplay style also allows players to get creative and use different approaches to various tasks. Players can go all out and take out targets with guns blazing, or opt for a more subtle stealth approach.
Players also have the option to either kill the target or get them to join their side. The possibilities are endless.
When Is It Coming Out?
"Mafia 3" fans would only have to wait for a few months, as the game will be released on the Playstation 4, PC, Mac OS and Xbox One on October 7.
