The biggest surprise for the "Penny Dreadful" fans came after airing of the eighth and the ninth episode of season 3.
Shortly after the episodes, series creator John Logan mentioned that he and the network has been keeping the conclusion of the TV show a secret so that fans do not take a sting on the season 3 finale, reported The BitBag.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, most of the critics and fans of "Penny Dreadful" do not believe Logan, when he said that the show is good until season 3 only.
Moreover, with the way the season 3 ending was broadcasted, it seems that the scene was forced and abrupt, which left fans surprised.
The fan reaction following the final episode was so negative that rumors of a season 4 of "Penny Dreadful" are floating in the air. Sadly, the speculations are not justified because viewers saw the show's protagonist, Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) dying during the final episode.
While explaining about the decision to end "Penny Dreadful" after season 3, Logan mentioned that the TV series has focused on Vanessa Ives and her struggle with faith.
Additionally, Logan revealed that midway of season 2, he began planning for season 3, and he knew where the story was heading, reported Master Herald.
According to the showrunner, although "Penny Dreadful" is about many things, it boils down to a single subject - a woman's journey of faith. It is about a deeply religious woman losing her faith in God, and then finding him again.
Critics claimed that the ending of the story did justice to Vanessa's character, even though it was abrupt. However, others have been unhappy with the ending of Vanessa's life, who could have carried on with her life after the struggles she faced.
