Japanese publication Famitsu gave Capcom's latest "Resident Evil" spin-off game "Umbrella Corps" a high rating ahead of its worldwide release on June 21.

According to Gematsu, Famitsu gave "Umbrella Corps" a high score of 36 over 40, with four reviews all giving the game a score of nine. It was Famitsu's second highest rating this week, with the top spot going to Sega's "Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Future Tone."

The high score given to "Umbrella Corps" came as a surprise, with Giant Bomb forumers pointing out that there is almost no hype surrounding the title.

PC Gamer had a hands-on experience with the game at PAX South earlier this year, and found it to be a super fast-paced 3v3 shooter. The news outlet said that the game is comparable to "Counter Strike: Global Offensive," and is far from the arcade-y shooting that the "Resident Evil" series is known for.

Another PC Gamer review criticized the title, saying that it strayed too far from its "Resident Evil" roots, and is reminiscent of the less impressive 2012 title "Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City."

Trusted Reviews is less enthusiastic about the "Umbrella Corps" single player campaign called "The Experiment." "The Experiment" requires the player to go through a series of time-based missions to collect samples from hordes of zombies.

The reviewer criticized the clunky controls, delay in aiming, and other things that are otherwise essential to a third-person shooter game. And for a title that is being marketed as an eSports title, this spells bad news.

Game Revolution is also unsure as to why Capcom created another "Resident Evil" shooter spin-off, given the poor reception of its previous shooter title.

How Famitsu gave "Umbrella Corps" a high score is a mystery, but fans will definitely find out for themselves if the game is worthy of its score when it comes out on the Playstation 4 and Steam on June 21.
