CD Projekt Red's latest and final expansion for "The Witcher 3," "Blood and Wine" is a stunning visual masterpiece. Compared to the gloomy atmosphere of the previous expansions, the region of Toussaint is a colorful display of images.

The game looks wonderful on PC at ultra high settings, but how will the Playstation 4 and Xbox One fare when it comes to maximizing the graphics? Digital Foundry compares the performance of both consoles to find out which one stands out from the other.

The PS4 runs at a native 1920x1080 resolution, compared to Xbox One's 1600x900. Texture quality is the same, and both matches the PC's highest seting.

Both consoles perform very well despite difference in resolution. However, there is a slight variation when it comes to draw distances, compared to PC's broader range, particularly for shadow detail. The difference only happens at extreme range, but for the most part, terrain still looks slightly better on PC at ultra high setting.

The PS4 and the Xbox One both played at 30fps for the most part, and lag barely happens, except for when Geralt is riding a horse. Even then, it doesn't happen often.

However, moving closer to the city, both consoles experience a performance drop. Xbox One struggles to keep a solid 30fps run all throughout, especially while going through the busy market street. A drop in performance was also seen during a fight with Scurvers, with Xbox One dropping at 26fps and the PS4 at 28fps.

Digital Foundry concludes that "The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine" in both consoles gave a decent performance, with PS4 just slightly better than the Xbox One, although not by a long shot. What's impressive is that both consoles can hold its own against PC's high settings. Digital Foundry expects future CD Projekt Red projects, like the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, to perform at the same level, if not better.
