Preparations
Dettlaff is weak against Vampire Oil, Black blood potions and Quen, so make sure you are well- stocked for the long battle ahead.
Phase One: Dettlaff Two-legged Form
Dettlaff starts off in his two-legged form. The vampire moves fast during this phase, and can also turn into fog and envelop Geralt. Dettlaff can also regenerate his strength and turn invisible during this round. Yrden is very useful here, so cast it as often as possible to slow him down and make him more vulnerable to attacks. Dodge often and keep your distance to avoid his attacks and apply Vampire Oil to your sword for maximum damage.
Phase Two: Dettlaff Winged Form
After Geralt has shaved around two-thirds of Dettlaff's health, he will transform into his winged form, and will use powerful attacks that can stun you.
Dettlaff will fly around and attack you with his swarm of bats. It takes a couple of seconds to charge, but since Quen cannot fully protect you from this attack, you would need to roll in his direction to minimize damage caused.
Dettlaff does this swooping dive bomb that does a significant amount of damage. He will become open to attacks after that, as he would momentarily stay on the ground after. Dodge his dive attack and get some hits in while he's still on the ground. Be patient and get a only a few attacks connected.
The vampire will also dive into the ground and emerge in front of you, unleashing a powerful AOE spell. Once he starts diving into the ground, dodge continuously to to avoid the following AOE attack.
Phase Three: Pulsating Fleshy Sacs
At one-thirds health, Dettlaff will trap you inside a fleshy-looking cage. The goal here is to destroy three pulsating bags around the area and kill his final mobile form at the same time. Run around the area and do damage to the sacs, occasionally hitting Dettlaff when you have the chance. Dettlaff can be killed, but he will respawn after a couple of minutes. Use this opportunity to smack the sacs. Be careful though, as Dettlaff tends to respawn near you.
Once you've taken care of the sacs, the cage will disappear, one last slash with your sword and Dettlaff will be defeated.
