Blizzard Entertainment's new team-based online shooter 'Overwatch' reveals its first major update today, a few hours before the game officially launches.
The game developer launched a live q&a session on Facebook today, with director Jeff Kaplan answering questions about Overwatch's future updates. Kaplan said that Blizzard is hoping to bring back Competitive Play mode, and explained that they are reworking the mode, after testing it out during closed beta. Kaplan said that they are aiming to reintroduce Competitive Play mode within the next month.
"I don't want to promise an exact date," Kaplan said. "My rough commitment - or not commitment - would be sometime toward the end of June, middle-to-end of June."
Blizzard is taking some of the players' feedback on board, including revising the length of the seasons, making them longer than one month. Kaplan confirmed that they are gearing towards a two-and-a-half-month long season, with several weeks breaks in between.
Kaplan has also discussed Sudden Death, and will be changing how frequently it appears in matches. The director said that Blizzard will be releasing more information on that before the release of the update.
The game director also answered some questions about a possible Overwatch sequel, talking about a single-player campaign. Kaplan also brought up Blizzard's cancelled MMO Titan, and its relationship to Overwatch. Kaplan pointed out that in Titan, there was a police force named Overwatch, and may be used to connect the two games into the upcoming sequel.
In a separate interview with PC Games N, Blizzard has also clarified that while all the Overwatch characters are playable without any need for purchases, there will still be microtransactions in the form of loot boxes. One of the game designers, Michael Chu, confirms, however, that all maps and heroes require no payments.
Overwatch is now live, and fans will sure to flock in and join in on the fun.
