Apple launched the latest iPad on March 7, at a press conference at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California. Along with the new iPad, the company also introduced a new Apple TV interface and device with better video streaming – 1080p - as well as the iOS 5.1, an upgrade to its mobile operating system.

The third-generation iPad will be able to operate on a high-speed LTE network, at speeds nearly 10 times faster than current 3G technology, and it comes with the anticipated Retina Display and a better camera.

Apple CEO Tim Cook sets the launch in the “post-PC world”, at a time when increasingly more users are moving away from desktop PCs in favor of mobile technology, including tablets. The new tablet has a rear-facing camera whose 5-megapixels sensor borrows from iPhone 4S, and comes with a new iPhoto app that offers near Photoshop-like abilities.

The 4G LTE (Long-Term Evolution) is a great improvement especially for business users or people who travel extensively, but it will come with a higher price tag. The WiFi-only tablet keeps the $499 price tag, while the most expensive 4G model, the 64GB iPad, will cost $829.

“While the hardware is notably enhanced, with an impressive Retina Display, better camera and faster processor, there are still some areas of improvement that Apple needs to work on, in order to stay ahead of its encroaching competitors,” noted Greenwich Consulting Managing Partner Fred Huet.
