Samsung is on a quest to make 2016 its year as seen by the many products and innovations it has for this year. In fact, the year has barely started, but it seems like it has already a long list of products it has introduced and unveiled to the public. Another that has just been added to this growing list is its two new Gear S2 smartwatches.
The two new Gear S2 watches were announced at the CES press event, and the Korean company is claiming that it just upped its smartwatches with this two new ones having been made out of premium materials and created with a very high-end style. One of the smartwatches is encased in an 18K rose gold, while the other one in platinum. The new gear S2 devices will not be that expensive regardless of their finishes.
The Korean electronics company also announced that its new Gear S2 collection will be supporting Samsung Pay with NFC. However, it is not yet known when that will be as no specific dates have been given yet. Samsung Pay is currently being used in the U.S., the U.K., Spain and China. Samsung Pay is also said to be making its way to Australia soon.
Samsung also released new straps and bracelets for its smartwatches and has also released new watch faces, which are created in partnership with known artists Jean-Michael Basquiat, Keith Haring and Jeremyville. But among these news, the most exciting should be the announcement that the Gear S2 range will now be working well with iOS devices.
This means that a support for iOS is in the making, though that might take some time as it was only briefly mentioned during the announcement of the latest Gear S2 smartwatches. This also means that Samsung will be making its new S2 smartwatches a direct competitor for the Apple Watch.
The Gear S2 smartwatches run Tizen. Samsung has been known to have been actively reaching out to several partners to build apps for its device. But for now users will find that Bloomberg, CNN, ESPN, eBay, Uber and Voxer are already available in the Gear S2 watches. The new premium Gear S2 smartwatches will be made available by February.
