Google has been building their reputation by creating new products and services that appeal to today's society. They also built their name by acquiring other big or small start-up companies to join their ever growing company and developing them or integrating them into their own products and services.
One of these companies or rather services that Google acquired recently, specifically July last year, is Songza. The product of four creative minds, Songza is a curated playlist service with around 5.5 million subscribers.
Now that they are now a part of the tech company, it has been planned for them to be integrated in Google Play Music. This fact was recently announced and apparently, its website and app are already porting to the tech giant's Play Music service by the end of January. And unlike some, who feels a bit sad about letting go of their pet project, this event was gladly embraced by its four founders.
Songza's CEO and now Google Product Manager Elias Roman is quoted to say that a name change is very easy to get comfortable with, especially with the progress on solving a problem they encountered with their service.
The problem Roman was referring to is on delivering music that is based on the users' moods and activities on their Concierge feature, which the playlist service calls as IRL sound tracking. It could be recalled that the tech giant has brought Concierge into their Play Music service four months after the initial acquisition. The said feature is now being used in 13 countries.
In connection to this, Roman and his partners have also announced that they will be bringing the same approach to the Play Music's podcasting; with the consumer version coming soon. This latest move is said to be Google's approach to the problem of being able to assemble a media strategy that can compete with the likes of Netflix, Spotify, and Apple.
Additionally, the tech giant also announced that their free Play tier which was launched earlier this year in June will finally be going to Canada. Apparently Songza is quite a big thing there.
