We all wondered what it was like to have a virtual assistant like the one in Star Trek wherein Captain Luke Picard verbally gives specific instructions to "Computer". The closest thing to that technology arrived two years ago with the launch of Amazon Echo, followed by Google Home in 2016. Both devices respond to voice commands. As reported by foxnews, here are a few comparisons between the two.
Design
Amazon Echo is 9.2 inches tall like a tower with blue circles that light up on top. It easily recognizes voice commands because of its seven microphones built around the device.
Google home is a bit shorter at 5.6 inches and is shaped like a vase. The body is white but you can replace the base with other colors sold separately. Both designs will look well in any living room or any room for that matter.
Voice Commands
For Amazon Echo, the wake up word is Alexa, therefore before you ask a question or give a command, you have to say the word Alexa. For instance, "Alexa, what time is it?" Echo connects to Amazon Assistant as its reference in answering questions.
For Google Home, the wake up word, or words in this matter, is "OK Google". Home connects to Google which is a much powerful tool for getting information.
Streaming Music
Yes, both devices can stream music but from different music services. The Amazon Echo connects to Amazon Prime Music, Google Home, on the other hand, connects to Google Play. Both devices can stream through Spotify, Pandora and TuneIn.
Price
According to cnet, the price for the Amazon Echo is $180 while the Google Home is priced at a lower price of $130. Which device do you prefer, the Amazon Echo or the Google Home? Share your thoughts and comments below.
