Xiaomi has made it official; their Mi 4 smartphone will get the Windows 10 OS. The Chinese tech company President and co-founder, Lin Bin, has announced through his Weibo page that on December 3, the said model will get the official Windows 10 ROM together with a picture of the said device.
Several months ago, Microsoft and Xiaomi has announced their partnership and this is the first time since then that the public can actually see something out of it. The said ROM will be compatible to all of the company's Mi 4 models that are already in operation. A detailed instruction on how to install it will soon be posted for the users.
There's no additional information on how Mi 4 users will be able to dual-boot their devices to Android or Windows 10. If it does come to dual booting, it will be the first of its kind. If not, then that means that the consumer is forced to either continue using their handsets with Android or switch to Windows.
Microsoft originally intended to give non-Windows consumers a taste of their Windows 10 on users' devices without having to invest in their hardware. But since then, only beta versions of the software were made available. Both companies have not shared any news or information on how that plan was received by the consumers.
Currently, Xiaomi Mi 4 is available at 14,999 INR for the 16GB version. It comes with a 5.0 inches Full HD display and runs Android v4.4.3 KitKat on 2.1 GHz Krait 400 quadcore and Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC. It has a 3GB RAM and a Adreno 330 GPU with a 3080 mAh battery that can last up to 280 hours on standby mode. The handset sports a 13MP primary shooter and an 8MP secondary shooter.
It can be noted that aside from the Mi 4 acquiring the Windows 10, other Xiaomi products are being powered by the same OS, including the recently launched Mi Pad 2 tablet with an Intel chip inside.
