A new Gizmodo report indicates that Apple’s soon-to-be-launched third-generation iPad may be called the ‘iPad HD’ instead of just ‘iPad 3’, as it is currently referred to.

According to a new inventory sheet, a list of Griffin accessories shows the ‘Griffin iPad HD,’ along with a description detailing ‘Intellicase for iPad HD (3)’ in various color options.

Manufacturers working on accessories for various devices, including Apple devices, get advance spec sheets on the dimensions of a new product launch. This way, by the time the device is actually available for purchase, manufacturers can have the accessories readily available.

Moreover, another entry on the inventory sheet lists an ‘Intellicase for iPad 2 / HD (3),’ which indicates that this particular case can be used to fit both the iPad 2 and the new-generation iPad. In turn, this case compatibility suggests there is no major difference in the case design for the upcoming tablet, set for release on March 7.

The upcoming iPad is expected to look much like its predecessor. The new iPad will be slightly thicker, but otherwise many leaked components feature a device with basically the same form factor. The new device to be launched next week is also expected to feature a Retina Display with a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, or double that of the iPad 2.

According to AppleInsider, Best Buy is expecting new third-party accessory supplies to arrive on March 11. Meanwhile, a new Apple Store is set to open on March 16 in Houston, Texas. Set just over a week after the announced launch event for the new iPad, the new store opening could also indicate the on-site sales date of iPad 3/iPad HD.
