An app recently created now enables smartphone users to help feed Syrian refugee children. The app that was developed by the United Nations World Food Program or UN WFP was launched worldwide today. The app is called ShareTheMeal app and it can be easily used.
Users who would like to share their blessing but is too far away or is just too busy to personally help out can just use the ShareTheMeal to help instead. Users can share their meals while having lunch at the office or even while enjoying dinner with their friends. The UN claims that a donation as small as $0.50 USD can already provide a child with vital nutrition for a day.
The contributions that will be collected will benefit all the Syrian children who are in Jordan as part of WFP's school meals program. WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin said that the simple act of sharing a meal is how people from different parts of the world come together. This new techie version of sharing a meal is a substantial way that the Generation Zero Hunger can move to end hunger. The ShareTheMeal app by the way is a free app.
The ShareTheMeal app's potential is ginormous. Today, there are at least 20 times more smartphone users than there are hungry children. Just imagine if all those smartphone users help even just $0.50 the total collected could make a difference.
In June 2015, the ShareTheMeal app was test launched in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. During this test launching, more than 120,000 users participated and were able to provide more than 1.7 million meals for school children located in Lesotho, a southern African country.
ShareTheMeal app founder Sebastian Stricker also adds that with the global launch of the said app, more smartphone users in different countries across the world will be able to support more hungry children.
Starting Nov. 12, the ShareTheMeal app will be available worldwide for iOS and Android device users through the app store. Users will only need 30 seconds to be able to register and after that they can now start sharing their meals with hungry children. They will also be able to follow the impact of each donation they make.
