Asus might be relatively small outside of personal computers when compared to other big companies like Apple and Samsung, but that doesn't stop them from releasing their own imprint in the world of technology. Aside from the personal computers they are known for, it was revealed by none other than the chairman of Asus that they have plans to expand and take on the world of smart phones as well.
Though they have already proven that they can in fact compete in that area, with their successful release of their smart phone ZenFone 2, Chairman Jonney Shih said in his interview that Asus needs to step up on their mobile initiatives to remain important within the scene. This might be because of the recent decline of the pc market which seems to continue falling, while the mobile industry dominates and continues to rise within the ranks.
They have also ventured into watches before with their ZenWatch called Man and so far, they have been successful at their attempt. ZenWatch has been praised for being easy on the eyes and is said to be one of the better Android wear devices to this day. Shih attributes this success to the fact that it was not made to attempt to replace your mobile phone. Shish also said that he believes that the best strategy they have made so far is to have the ZenWatch as a companion or the phone. They believed that they have started with the right strategy at the beginning of its creation starting with the design, replacing the watch.
Also according to Chairman Shih, they are already making plans to partner again with Google to release their planned devices. Google has been their partner on their previous Nexus devices the Nexus 7 tablet which was released in 2012 and also when they released its variant in 2013. These have been received well back then. Although Shih has not confirmed anything, he said that they do have a lot of project going on so all the public could do for now is to wait.
Aside from that planned smart phone, one of Asus' projects involves a VR product. According to Shih they have been working on it with another company as a partner, which for now remains a mystery. There is no exact or target date of release yet. With these, people can say that Asus is indeed planning take on the smart phone industry and might also release again one of the best smart watches so it will also be one of the things to watch out from Asus.
